Now let’s talk about Bernie Sanders. He’s not really my preferred candidate, but the difference with Trump is so huge, and the air is so fresh! Here are my points:
-From Fifties, from Macchartism, he has been the only Congress’ member selfdefining as a “socialist”, not as a “liberal” or a “progressist”.
-He worked as a carpenter and a movie director, before going to politics.
-He promoted actions for homosexual rights, unemployed and minorities. He opposed the Irak warand the death penalty.
-When he was younger he joined the youth organization of the Socialist Party of America. He was active in the afro-american movement for the civil rights; organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He was with Martin Luther King during the Washington’s March.
-This is the only one critic point about him. His positions about Israel, that are sometimes ambiguous or not very radical. However we have to say, in his defence, that he campaigned against sending weapons for Israel, from 1971, where he advocated “no guns for Israel”.
-Public healthcare system; for restoring the Glass-Steagall Act to divide banks into investment banks and saving ones, in order to protect people; for the free university system financed by taxation of Stock Exchange; for the minimum wage at 15 €; for cutting relationships between lobbies and candidates.
-Against Saudi Arabia’s intervention into Yemen.
-He’s getting a lot of support because young people, in the U.S.A., are going to radicalize to the left wing.
